International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) has launched a new report focused on health policy related to epilepsy. The report was officially presented during the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva.

The report is based on the findings of the Global Epilepsy Needs Study (GENS) – a large-scale IBE study examining the needs of people living with epilepsy. One of the report’s main objectives is to support the implementation of the World Health Organization’s Intersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy and Other Neurological Disorders (IGAP) 2022–2031. The authors translate research findings and the experiences of people with epilepsy into practical recommendations that can be used by governments, healthcare system representatives, the scientific community, and civil society organizations.

The report identifies ten global policy priorities. These include strengthening the protection of human rights, increasing public awareness of epilepsy and seizure first aid, developing national epilepsy programmes, improving access to diagnosis, treatment and medicines, expanding comprehensive care, supporting research and innovation, and creating a more inclusive environment for people living with epilepsy.

The International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) invites specialists to participate in a global survey on the use of anesthetic drugs in the treatment of epilepsy in patients aged 16 and older.

Epilepsy treatment may vary depending on the country, facility, and local procedures. Particularly significant differences exist regarding the timing of sedation/anesthesia initiation, the duration of the procedure, and the choice of medications used.

The goal of the survey, prepared by the ILAE Emergency Treatment Task Force, is to gather information on current clinical practice across various healthcare systems worldwide. The data collected will help assess whether broader international recommendations or guidelines regarding the use of anesthetics in this patient group are needed.

The survey can be completed online. The deadline for submitting responses is September 25, 2026.

The International League Against Epilepsy has announced an open call for leadership roles in the Epileptic Disorders™ Internship Program. The journal is currently looking for an Internship Program Leader and Assistant Leader to support and further develop the initiative from 1 July 2026.

The selected candidates will help shape the overall direction of the programme, working under the guidance of the Editor-in-Chief. Their responsibilities will include recruiting new interns, supporting them during their 6- to 12-month placements, and introducing improvements to strengthen the internship experience.

Applicants should have a strong command of English. Those interested in applying are asked to submit their most recent CV and a personal statement.

The 16th International Summer School for Neuropathology and Epilepsy Surgery (INES 2026) will take place in Erlangen, Germany, from September 10-13, 2026. This international event is intended for specialists involved in the diagnosis and treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy.

The aim of INES 2026 is to deepen participants’ knowledge of the diagnosis and classification of the histopathological substrates of drug-resistant epilepsy. The program includes lectures delivered by internationally recognized experts in neuropathology and epilepsy surgery, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of focal forms of epilepsy in humans.

INES workshops have been organized since 2013 and have been held in several countries, including Germany, Brazil, the United States, and China. The event is recommended by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) and the European Reference Network EpiCARE.

We would like to remind you about the registration for the 8th edition of the ILAE School on EEG in the first year of life. Registration is open until the end of January 2026.

We invite you to take part in an ILAE study assessing competencies in EEG analysis among trainees and practitioners in medical professions worldwide.

Participants are asked to analyze fifteen standard EEG recordings (each lasting 21 to 54 minutes) and determine whether abnormalities are present (and, if so, of what type). For each EEG, participants are given the patient’s age and sex only, with no other clinical data. After a brief questionnaire, participants receive a personalized summary of their results along with a comparison to the experts’ analysis.

No personally identifiable information will be collected.

The Eilat course is designed for junior clinicians and researchers (≤ 45 years) – neurologists, neuropediatricians, pharmacists, pharmacologists, neuropsychologists and neuroscientists interested in epilepsy treatment and basic research. The scientific program features theoretical lectures (pharmacology, drug interactions, pharmacokinetics, treatment in children and adults), case studies and poster sessions.

The ILAE Climate Change Commission has announced the launch of the ILAE Climate Change and Sustainability Prize for 2025. This award recognizes groundbreaking efforts to promote sustainable practices within epilepsy care and research.
