EEG Competency Study

We invite you to take part in an ILAE study assessing competencies in EEG analysis among trainees and practitioners in medical professions worldwide.

Participants are asked to analyze fifteen standard EEG recordings (each lasting 21 to 54 minutes) and determine whether abnormalities are present (and, if so, of what type). For each EEG, participants are given the patient’s age and sex only, with no other clinical data. After a brief questionnaire, participants receive a personalized summary of their results along with a comparison to the experts’ analysis.

No personally identifiable information will be collected.

February 14th – Epilepsy Awareness Day

February 14th is a unique day – in addition to the traditional celebration of Valentine’s Day, it is also recognized as Epilepsy Awareness Day. This symbolic observance coincides with the feast of Saint Valentine, the patron saint of lovers, who, according to one legend, also cared for people suffering from epilepsy, sometimes referred to as the “Saint Valentine’s disease.”

The purpose of this day is to raise public awareness about epilepsy, one of the most common neurological disorders. In Poland, approximately 400,000 [1] people live with epilepsy, and around 27,000 [1] new cases are diagnosed each year, highlighting the importance of education on recognizing symptoms and providing first aid during a seizure.

Many well-known artists and historical figures have struggled with epilepsy. Ludwig van Beethoven, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Napoleon Bonaparte are just a few of the notable individuals believed to have faced challenges related to the condition [2].

Epilepsy Awareness Day is not only an opportunity for education but also for fostering a supportive and understanding community for those living with epilepsy. Educational initiatives, awareness campaigns, and charity events serve as reminders that this condition does not have to be a barrier to achieving dreams and life goals. Thanks to advancements in treatment and improved diagnostics, people with epilepsy can expect a better quality of life and greater participation in society.
