The largest study on the genetic basis of epilepsy to date is described on the ILAE website in a popular science article (which we strongly recommend reading) along with a brief interview with the authors. The study was published last month in the prestigious journal Nature Genetics and was coordinated by ILAE.
The study involved 30,000 people with epilepsy and more than 50,000 healthy people. Our understanding of why epilepsy arises has been greatly increased by the discovery of a number of new risk genes, which may also aid in the development of novel treatments for the condition.

An intersectoral global action plan on epilepsy and other neurological disorders has been made fully available on the World Health Organization’s website. The plan has been prepared for the period of 2022-2031.

The plan’s main objective is to increase access to care and treatment for people with epilepsy and other neurological disorders. Additionally, it covers how to raise patient, caregiver, and family quality of life. Activities that support a healthy brain’s development as well as measures to prevent the aforementioned disorders are also promoted.
A report on the celebration of International Epilepsy Day has appeared on the ILAE website. You can read the report at the following link.
The Neurobiology Commission offers research skills bursaries “ILAE Research Skills Bursaries 2023” and travel bursaries “ILAE Travel Bursaries 2023” for young trainees and investigators. More information can be found on the ILAE website.
